7. Examining Evidence

Learning how to examine something is important. In class here were just a few of the items you looked closely at in groups....

When you were examining these items you were asked in your groups to discuss the following:
  What is it made from?
     How might it be used?
When do you think it was made?
Why do you think it was made at this time?

and then you were asked

What is it similar to?
(think about the materials it is made from, its use, the way it looks etc.....)

Every item has existed somewhere, and been used someone in some way.

à This item came from a different place where there are different factors influences it. It has lived a “life” in a different place.
à The item is like us it has physical, social, cultural, economic, and political things that have affected it. It also could also may be looked at from a local, national, regional, or global perspective.
à Historians try to find out about the past by looking at items and understanding where it came from in the past. They look at artefacts to try and understand the past.

à Geographers want to about the physical place something/ someone came from. They want to know how humans live in their world today.
